SEO Agency Los Angeles: 7 Tips for Success
Los Angeles, California’s known for many things. Movies, stars, glitz, and glamor. But did you know it is also a hotspot for SEO agencies with superb strategies? That is because many of the top-grossing companies in the world are in Los Angeles. That is why our team traveled across Tinseltown. We sat down to interview SEO experts at many top-level organizations. This article is a result of those interviews. Here are the best seven SEO tips to fuel traffic to your brand’s website.
1) Use the SERPS as often as you use tools.
In case you are not familiar with SERPS, let’s spell it out in plain English. Algorithms determine how websites get ranked on search engines. SERP stands for “search engine’s results page.” The purpose is to benefit website publishers that create the greatest online content. This makes it crucial to have an understanding of search intent. There is an easy way to go about this. All one must do is study the results that a specific keyword gets in search engines. This will allow you to figure out the difficulties that people searching need to solve.
We had the pleasure of chatting with Mike Patterson. He is the Head of SEO Content at a top marketing firm in Los Angeles. He had this to say:
“Sure, tools are going to give you a lot of data. But the data is often out of date and incomplete. In fact, it is often biased. That is why SEOs should combine insights from tools with clues. The clues should be in real-time and correlate to the SERPs. You have got to glance at what is upcoming for Google’s top queries. Do so whenever you taking the following three actions. 1. Diagnosing a page with traffic. 2. Targeting a keyword you have not used before. 3. Refreshing certain parts of your content.”
Patterson went on to suggest that organizations should track the following criteria:
- How your website shows up in search engine results.
-This includes the following factors. Jump links. The title. Schema. The date. Meta descriptions.
- All relevant search features.
- The webpages that rank the highest.
-This includes the following factors. Directories. Databases. Media sites. Businesses.
- Content that ranks the highest.
-This includes the following factors. Tutorials. Product pages. Listicles.
- Where on the page the initial organic search result shows up.
2) Understand how to conduct SERP overlap tests.
You are now already taking part in analyzing the SERP. You might as well go ahead and do a SERP overlap test. This test is great for figuring out many new strategies. For example, it helps many Los Angeles companies decide what they should target. They often focus on two or more queries with a single piece of content. Do not feel bad if you do not understand what the SERP overlap test is. We sat down to chat with Marcia Williamson. She is an SEO strategist at a television studio in Burbank, California. Here is how she described conducting the SERP overlap test:
“You begin by doing a search in incognito mode. Search for Keyword X. Next, do another search for Keyword Z. Your SERPs might look dissimilar. You can tell if the top-ranking pages do not look the same. You can also tell if Keyword X ranks number one. But Keyword Z ranks way lower. This means Google reacts to the queries in a different manner. They each have a different intent. But if the SERPs contain overlap, that is a great sign. That means the search engine views the two queries as being like one another.”
3) Focus on featured snippets with the SERPs.
What are feature snippets? Search engines use them to tell people answers to queries. They do so right on the search results page. This is to prevent people from having to check out another page. Their question gets answered fast. This has made a huge difference when it comes to getting organic search results. This means companies must do all they can to try to rank high. A key strategy for doing so is writing posts that answer people’s questions. This will increase the relevancy of the keyword someone inputs. This is the key strategy to obtaining featured snippets. This is why blog posts have to get organized and formatted in the manner that Google prefers. This is so Google’s algorithm can tell that your blog has answered a question that many users ask. This may mean you have to use specific coding. That coding serves a great purpose. It makes your featured snippets stand out from the competition.
We spoke about featured snippets with Jim McBride. He is a technology executive at a social media company in Venice, California. Here is what he had to say:
“If you want to save your company a lot of guesswork, featured snippets help. All you have to do is target the snippets by way of crafted, formatted sections. This will help your content, the featured snippets, rank high. But make sure that your code is consistent and not too busy at all. Next thing you know, you’ll get on the right track to having winning snippets. You’ve got to make your code as lean as possible.”
4) Keep in mind that not all your content has to be ready for SEO.
What does on-page SEO mean? It is the action of optimizing pages on your website. The way to do so is to feature front and back-end components. Those components serve a specific purpose. It is to ensure that your content ranks high in search results. We spoke to Robert Estes about the main components your team should keep in mind. He is an IT consultant that assists financial holding companies across the LA area. He suggested examining the following key components:
-the titles of pages
-the URLs for pages
-alt-text on images
-the speed of the website
-content that is as high-quality as possible
-markup that is as structured as possible
The takeaway from Estes’ wisdom is that your brand’s copy must get optimized. Otherwise, it is almost impossible for your pages to rank. It is a three-step process. 1. Including the target keyword. 2. Ensuring that the content is relevant. 3. Answering all questions that people have. A search engine then analyzes this three-step process. Why? To make sure the pages include everything necessary.
5) Focus on certain types of keywords.
There are two types of keywords that demand your brand’s attention. Low volume keywords and high volume keywords. The organic search strategy can seem daunting at times. But you cannot let it become more complicated than it needs to be. The main factor is to target keywords that consist of a customer’s complete journey. Both high and low volume keywords apply to it. We spoke to Anna Allen about the keywords. She is a technology/SEO specialist at a movie studio in Culver City, California. Here is what she had to say:
“What are the keywords that are usually higher volume? They are your early interest keywords. The lower volume ones are later-interest keywords. Why? Well, audiences get more specific by the day. That is why you cannot feel fearful about going after low volume keywords. Especially if they can turn you traffic into potential buyers. So, you have got to get creative. You have to get creative as you can when you go after high volume keywords. I’l give you an example. I used to be the editor of a technology blog. I assigned topics that were different from the usual ones. This led to an increase in search volume.”
6) Become a pruner.
What do we mean by this? Say your brand experiences long timeframes of growth. That means it is time to prune the content. This is the act of reducing the total number of pages that get indexed. You can do so by getting rid of outdated content that is low in quality. Remember, if something does not add value to your website- trash it. A Chief Strategist at a Los Angeles SEO agency, Brian Reeves, spoke to us about this. Here is what he said:
“Say you’ve had a lot of growth over time. That’s great. But now you have got to prune the content. The longer you work with SEO, the more stuff you pick up on. And here is one thing I’ve picked up on that matters a lot. The more a website grows, some of the content is going to fail. That’s okay. It means you’ve got to audit your website. Do so by identifying pages that do not drive adequate traffic. Not to mention, watch out if conversions and backlinks aren’t getting driven. In this case, go ahead and unpublish the content. This has another great benefit. It will boost the speed of your website.”
7) Make your web pages consolidated.
There are two keys to consolidating the pages of websites. 1. Using canonical tags. 2. Using redirects. Site audits often show you pages that have content like your own. Once you see it, it’s time to do some consolidating. We spoke with Brian Rodriguez, the President of a major SEO agency in Los Angeles. Here is what he said about consolidation:
“Say your team does a lot of content production. What’s the number one common byproduct that you get back? It is having the same or duplicate content. Does W want various parts of a site producing the same thing? No one. It can ruin traffic to your site thanks to search engine results. That’s why you’ve got to redirect your poor-performing pages to an improved one. The improved page can still feature similar information.”
